Sudan RSA Video For this video we wanted to educate others about the history and background of Sudan regarding the refugee crises. In order to create a clear and concise video we did thorough research, which you can read about in the project description section on this website. This video addresses the political battle that occurred during the civil war which caused the division between north and south Sudan. We as well showed what its like for the girls and boys that are dragged into war or used as house slaves. This is a video that addresses a particular person that went the refugee crisis. We interviewed a boy from Sudan at the Yalla SD program and we changed his name to Kariem for the purpose of security. This Video talks about his experiences as well as Mark Kabban. who started the program. We gave a lot of background information and used two different narrations to add the emotional appeal. Overall this video was created to express how east it is to just step out of the comfort zone and help any any way with this crisis. IT could be as easy as playing soccer on Sundays. Model United NationsMUN (Model United Nations) is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. For this project we wanted to have a conference discussing the refugee crisis in the Middle East. In particular my conference was regarding mental health, nutrition and medical care. We wanted to find solutions to the issues in the refugee camps. My country that I was given was Germany. Germany has a lot of power and wealth, but they needed a better way to regulate the influx of refugees that were coming in. We gained support with countries like Jordan, Lebanon, Greece ex. They supplied us with medical specialists to help with the illnesses that came with the refugees. for this project we had to do a lot of research regarding our country so that we felt comfortable representing it as well as making proper diplomatic decisions. We had many practice trials in class, but of course using topics such as "If we could only keep one type of fruit and wipe out all the others which would it be". This just helped us more with all the guide lines. As I mentioned before my country was Germany and our conference was tilted "WHO" (World Health organization) We were in charge of discussing mental health, nutrition and medical health. I believe we passed about five out of the six resolutions and I walked away with "The Best Portrayal of Country " award. I really enjoyed the conference, because it reminded me of when I was in the sixth period. I love public speaking and politics. One thing that I really loved as well was the way it changed some of the students out look of MUN and politics together. I was able to see students that didn't really engage that much in class get really invested in the conference. I personally think that was my favorite take away. In order to be able to write a well written Position Paper you need a lot research as well as critique. Each student had to write about four drafts of their position paper, well after we wrote pages and pages of notes and background information of just our country. I believe that this really stretched my writing capabilities. The position paper basically just states the countries views on the particular issue and incorporates a resolution idea. We really needed to focus on the fact that this is a real global issue. We couldn't state our own opinions or go after what we heard. Our research needed to be checked with teachers and other people that represented your same country. we as well used information form our previous project "Voices of refuge" to give us a foundation to work off of. Faces of South County Originally in this project I would take over a lot of the initial emails and phone calls , which I later realized would not benefit the cohort later on. I started to learn about my members passions and interest. I as well I learned where there strengths and challenged lie. Through these observations I talked with our project manager and made sure that the assignments we gave were given based off there strengths. The piece of evidence that I show below is our groups T-shirt. This was hand drawn by Elijah Nowlin. This really helped our cohort and he enjoyed working on it, because it was with in his interests. I used this as well as a way to grow my leadership skills, because a good leader will know the people that they are working with and will be able to encourage them through there challenges and strengthen them through the strong points. As far as what I hope to accomplish in during this next semester as I said before I want to maintain a 4.o GPA as well as do my best in all aspects of school and encourage myself to stay involved outside of school. When it comes to myself personally I would like to ask my teachers for that evidence in how they will observe my leadership skills this next semester compared to this past semester. I could talk about how I was to improve different aspects of what i'm involved with, but that a given to improve as I continue to implement that with in my daily routines. I think its more important to set goals on yourself as a person, because if that is refined then it will ultimately be show cased in your accomplishments academically or where ever your passions lay. Into the WildFor this project we wanted to explore ourselves in a sense. We learned about Chris McCandless and his adventure all the way to Alaska as well as his personal experiences. We read the book "Into the Wild" written by Jon Krakauer. Our goal was to find a balance between feeling safe and quote on quote in our comfort zone to feeling adventurous. This doesn't necessarily mean go sky diving, but in other words, do something that makes you feel challenged. Laszlo made this project fall under the lines of visiting national monuments kind of like what Chris did. We basically created detailed travel plans with the use of a "1,000 dollars" and " four weeks" to achieve this trip (alone). As we learned more about Chris through our reading and book clubs we created book artifacts. These artifacts were creative illustrations of particular sections of the book. Our first artifact was about character development and our second one was about themes we noticed with in our reading. These artifacts showcased each students personal take away's in a sense. At the end of the year we went on a class camping trip to Cuyamaca State Park. There we were able to hike, bond as a class, and complete final end of the year share outs in Humanities, Spanish and Chemistry. Adventure Contract Through out this project we were inspired by the journey that Chris McCandles took. We decided to create "Adventure Contracts" to illustrate the journey we would like to take on our own. Down below I have attached my whole journey instead of just a couple images, because I want readers to know the full experience. I chose the destinations below, because I didn't want to plan an elaborate trip. I wanted to plan a trip that would be feasible down the road when I am a bit more independent. I did make a note to travel to an island and explore water falls. One of my other goals is to do something that will push me out of my comfort zone such as white water rafting and cliff diving. Camping Trip This first Image show cases the the Addveture Contract Share outs during the trip. Here we told our goups our future plans and our respons to what we think is a meaningful life. These were tow pictures taken of my friend Makai and I playing guitar and singing. Our teacher Laszlo waking us up. For this trip I was looking forward to strengthening my friendships and making friends with new people. I think its fun to get to know someone from a different environment then just a classroom. I think the easier part of the camping trip was just hanging out with friends and playing cards. The more challenging parts were for one the eight mile hike, because I was really hot. But besides physical stuff I would say reading my Spanish poem made me feel uncomfortable as well as pushing myself to veer from my group of friends and talk to new people. I was surprised I thought that cooking would be a challenge for me, because I don't cook, but it was quite easy. One thing that I will remember most on the trip would be reaching the top of stone wall peak and claiming the rocks to the very top. there I was able to have the a beautiful view and a nice breeze. Another thing that I liked was the Chemistry share outs, because I loved making s'mores and learning about what are lives could be like if we were born in completely different environments. I think I will also remember staying out late on the first night and talking to class mates i normally don't talk to about all kinds of things.
