A Family History Narrative was an assignment where we were able to learn about our family histories as well as strengthen our creative writing skills. This entailed us to interview several relatives in the hopes to learn more about there back stories and how that may relate to our experiences. Most of us were able to collect stories that made our narratives very moving. Whether it be uplifting, discouraging, or quirky we all took this assignment as a way to reflect on where we came from. The initial interviewing process later helped us when we started to work on The Faces For South County project. For me personally I interviewed my grandfather name Jim Sudmeire. I wrote about his experience in the Korean War. Case Study - Haiti and USAID During the being on the semester we addressed the issues regarding Haiti's earth quack and the implications that came afterward. We read a couple different articles and watched a Vice video that was very opinionated. The video addressed that there were many private donations and 10 billion dollars were donated by the USA, but the money was being given to organizations that would then use the money for rebuilding Haiti. The issues with this is that nothing was being implemented with in Haiti and the organizations were profiting from other countries devastation's. When they did implement something is seemed as if they were only building things that would make the most profit for themselves. An Olympic soccer field wasn't needed what was needed was proper pluming and freshwater. What I as well thought was interesting was that the parts of Haiti that were not expecting help found ways to re-build themselves unlike the people that were waiting for US help pouted when they had to wait. Overall I think that this was very wrong that they were so greedy with there money that the thought of people starving in cardboard boxes didn't faze them. Even when they showcased homes for later building, none of the model homes were even appropriate for that area. It truly shows how corrupt we can really become. Book Club
Growth Through Pictures During my POL I expressed that last year I had trouble making friends these initial activities that we partook in made growing friendships a bit easier. I used this as a moment I have grown, because I was slowly learning how to feel uncomfortable and being able to learn the importance of being invested. I love this picture, because it showcases our first day in Logan Heights pretty much unaware of what was to come. I grew in this particular moment, because this was the first time in the project that I took more of a leadership role, in the sense that I made sure that every one participated and collected all the artifacts that we needed. During this day in class we were learning about the Stanford design principles by making are clients wallets better for them. In order to do this we had to go through all the five steps, Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. This was a growing moment, because I finally realized that theirs a purpose behind making an effect product. I love this photo a lot as well, because we are making temporary cross walks in Logan Heights. We spend the entire day working so hard to complete everything for it juts to be torn down in just the first hour of the event. Here we were showed that even when you have all the pieces figured out and your plans are passed and signed off does not mean that they are the right plans. We got to walk away from this event proud that we worked our hardiest, but we more so were just glad that this taught us a lesson about community involvement. The South County Economic Summit was such an impactful experience for me I don't even know how to explain it. First off I love dressing up in woman's suits and I loved the professional environment. The first image above is when I spoke with Danny Melgoaza who I was already in contact with prior to summit. He then sent me the contact for the Better Block Project. Later that morning when I ate lunch I sat at the City of San Diego table. There I was able to do more net working and because of my professionalize A woman named Tera Avina who is the Business Development coordinator for the City of San Diego offered me an internship for this upcoming summer. I am super proud of my team and of my self this was defiantly a growing moment this semester.
